About the Beneficiary

Tara Devi is a 75-year-old widow who has gone through many struggles. She lives in a small jhuggi (slum) at Barapullah JJ Camp, near Tyag Raj Stadium, with her daughter-in-law and three grandchildren. A few years ago, she lost her only son, who was the family’s sole provider, in a tragic accident. Since then, life has been very difficult for them. Because of her old age, Tara cannot walk without help and depends on a walking stick. Sadly, her stick is now old and unsafe to use. Just walking from her bed to the other side of the room is painful and hard. Her daughter-in-law works hard as a house help to support the family, while also taking care of Tara and raising three children. Their financial situation is very bad. Tara used to get a widow's pension, but she hasn’t received it for the past four months because of delays. With no savings and many expenses, even basic needs are a struggle. Tara dreams of being able to walk around her small home without falling and to enjoy the morning sun. A new walking stick would give her back some freedom and dignity in a life full of challenges.
